Founded in 1925, John A. Knutson & Co., PLLP serves clients throughout Minnesota and beyond. Our office is located in the Twin Cities and is home to roughly 60 accounting professionals, consultants and support staff.

We’re a mid-sized firm, which means we’re large enough to support clients of all sizes, yet small enough to dedicate a partner to each and every project. We believe it’s our personalized accounting services in Minneapolis & St. Paul that make the difference.  We specialize in serving clients within the construction, retail/wholesale, real estate, ESOP advisory, business & professional services and manufacturing industries.

  • 1925

    Christensen, Holloway, Knutson & Bowers is founded. They set up shop in the Plymouth Building in Minneapolis.

  • 1925

    AJ Knutson was one of the original founding partners. He is pictured here with his son, Jack.

  • 1927

    Christensen, Holloway, Knutson & Bowers move to the Metropolitan Bank Building

  • 1928

    The firm changes its name to Holloway, Knutson & Bowers.

  • 1940

    Holloway, Knutson & Bowers move to the Foshay Tower—the tallest building in Minneapolis at the time.

  • 1952

    John “Jack” Knutson (Brian’s father and Andy’s grandfather) passed the CPA exam and joined the firm.

  • 1964

    AJ Knutson retires and Tom Green becomes a partner. The firm name is changed to John A. Knutson & Co.

  • 1981

    Bob Davis becomes a partner.

  • 1985

    John A. Knutson & Co. moves to the Peavey Building in Minneapolis.

  • 1985

    Brian Knutson becomes a partner.

  • 1985

    Helen Berndt retires after 60 years at the company.

  • 1992

    Jack Knutson retires.

  • 1995

    Pete Schadegg becomes a partner.

  • 1996

    Todd Koch becomes a partner.

  • 1998

    The Partners purchase a building in Falcon Heights and the firm moves to its present location.

  • 2004

    Bob Davis retires.

  • 2007

    Jason Loven becomes a partner.

  • 2015

    Andy Knutson becomes a partner—representing the 4th generation of Knutson leadership.

  • 2016

    John Ammann becomes a partner.

  • 2017

    Pete Schadegg retires.

  • 2018

    Kyla Hansen becomes a partner.

  • 2019

    Brian retires after 42 tax seasons

  • 2023

    Todd retires after 42 tax seasons

  • 2024

    Matt Luckmann and Matt Mikel become partners.

  • 2025
